There He Is...Mr. VHS...

November 13th marked the first annual Mr. VHS contest. The contest, which was a fundraiser for the Yearbook Committee, pitted 15senior males against each other. There could only be one winner of the $100 cash grand prize and the title of "Mr. VHS." The seniors had to pick a theme and a teacher sponsor for their introductions at the beginning of the event. From there, the student pageant was composed of a talent competition, a coordinated dance, a formal wear competition, and an interview. After some intense elimination rounds, the final two contestants, competed in a karaoke competition and a dance-off. The audience was memorized as the finalist, Mr. Football - Bryan Hetrick, and Mr. Red Sox - Rob Livorio, sang to their favorite (more or less) Kelly Clarkson songs. In the end, after a suspense-filled judge's tie, and a dance-off tie-breaker, Mr. Football came through with the touchdown! Congratulations to Bryan Hetrick, the first Mr. VHS!

Eleventh Grade Students

We are pleased to inform you of an opportunity for members of the graduating class of 2009. Valley High School has partnered with Penn State New Kensington to enable qualified seniors to enroll in college courses while still in high school. The New Kensington-Arnold School District will be applying for a state grant that could offset a portion of the cost of participating in this program. As a resident of the New Kensington-Arnold School District, your child could participate in this program.
    To qualify a student must:
  • Have a sufficient number of credits accumulated by August, 2008, to be considered a senior - on track to graduate in June of 2009.
  • Score at least Proficient on the Grade 11 PSSA Reading and Math exams or maintain at least a 3.0 grade average in the intended area of study
  • Complete a PSNK Dual Enrollment Application
  • Complete a VHS/PSNK Dual Enrollment Contact
Students may register for 3 credits each semester from a list of courses approved for dual enrollment. The student will be responsible for tuition and books for each course and their transportation to and from Penn State New Kensington. The New Kensington-Arnold School District may reimburse students for a portion of the costs incurred based on any Dual Enrollment Grant funding received for this program.

If you are interested in participating in this program for the fall or spring term next year, please call the Valley High School Guidance Office and speak with Mrs. Valentic at 724-337-4536 Ext. 1086.
